All proceeds from this event will go towards a scholarship for a college-bound YouthBuild graduate, to be announced and presented at our August 28 graduation ceremony.

About The YouthBuild Scholarship Fund:
In today's job market, postsecondary education through colleges and technical schools is crucial for young adults just starting their career. The YouthBuild Philly Scholarship Fund helps college-bound YouthBuild Philly graduates (all former high school dropouts) transition into college with the books and supplies they'll need to succeed. Our goal for 2015 is to raise enough funds through individual giving and this Young Friends of YouthBuild Philadelphia event to provide scholarships to 20 graduates at their commencement ceremony in late August. Proceeds from the Young Friends event will fund a special “Young Friends” scholarship, which will be presented by a Young Friend at graduation.
About The Monkey & The Elephant:
The Monkey & The Elephant is a non-profit coffee shop focused on helping former foster youth navigate the transition to adulthood. The café opened earlier this year, and offers job and life skills training to the young adults in the program. The organization was founded by AmeriCorps alumnus Lisa Miccolis who previously served at YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School in North Philadelphia and worked at numerous coffee establishments in the city. We admire M&E's mission and work, and are grateful to them for loaning their beautiful space to us for this event!
