Healing Centered Communities: Using Trauma Informed Care and Restorative Practices to Prepare for Togetherness Post-COVID
Wednesday, July 21, 2021, 1 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST.
In this workshop, we will explore the ways in which trauma informed care and restorative practices can be integrated to create spaces and relationships that promote healing centered engagement. A critique of trauma informed care has been that it feels deficit based while restorative practices can often be presented without the deep understanding and acknowledgement of one's history and patterns. In the face of civil unrest and a global pandemic, communities need an asset based framework that is holistic and culturally rooted in theory, strategy, and tools. When we make intentional connections between trauma informed care and restorative practices, we move closer to creating healing centered communities.
In this training, participants will:
- Understand the basic principles of trauma informed care and identify how these principles can be applied as an asset based framework
- Understand the basic principles of restorative practices and how being authentically WITH someone requires a deep understanding of their history, triggers, and patterns.
- Reflect on the importance of creating and sustaining healing centered spaces and relationships as we are all coping with deep levels of loss, pain, and fear.
- Walk away with concrete examples of tools and strategies that integrate both trauma informed care and restorative practices that can be immediately implemented in any community.
